Public Education
As a parent of a traditional learner, an advanced learner, and a special education learner, public education is very important to me. Wisconsinites value education, yet our public schools are being starved of much needed revenue and support. The bipartisan 2019 Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding made several recommendations to address the funding gap, which were rejected by the state legislature. We now have a historic budget surplus, part of which we should use to fill this funding deficit. I plan to work with colleagues in the Assembly, parents, teachers and advocates to pass a budget that addresses the needs of our public schools and provides the education our children deserve and district 43 expects. I will also support fully funding public education in the biennial budgets, which needs to include mental health support, general health support, an increase in special education funding, as well as trade and technical education support. The under-funding of our public schools is a travesty that must be addressed to provide basic and enhanced services for all our students. We must provide teachers and staff the resources they need to instill in Wisconsin children a life-long love of learning that will carry them forward.
