Environment

State Assembly District 43 includes eastern Dane County, and western Rock County, and contains the Badfish Creek, Lower Koshkonong Creek, and Yahara River watersheds. This area has been bountiful land for centuries, rich  with wildlife and water resources.  Climate models predict this area will become wetter as we experience more extreme weather events. As recently as 2018, flooding events were catastrophic to the environment and our communities. Rock County is particularly vulnerable because it has a shallow soil bed, and extreme rain events threaten the natural balance of the soil. We cannot live, much less have quality of life, if our water is poisoned, our land unable to grow food, our air too polluted to breathe, and our climate too warm to support life. Today, this area has become predominantly agricultural, with developments competing with agriculture and the natural landscape. In the legislature, I will fight for environmental policy that protects the natural resources of the region, advocate for clean energy and access to clean water, and work with our major industries, like agriculture, for solutions to climate change that preserve District 43.
